Farley Trail House
Austin, TX
Welcoming with a warm exterior palette of tactile finishes, the Farley Trail House required the substantial renovation and addition of an existing home in Austin. The new entry foyer leads to an open-plan interior filled with natural light that is centered around a beautifully sculpted stair of steel, glass, and reclaimed pecan wood.
The owners, a family with two young daughters, commissioned Antenora Architects to create a warm contemporary home that is aesthetically clean and uncluttered, with a floor plan that allows easy interactions between kitchen, living areas, and dining spaces. Because the family enjoys outdoor activities, there is a very deliberate visual connection between the interior, backyard, pool, and guesthouse.
While the design added an entirely new second floor, the architects emphasized existing materials from the original home and natural features of the site. The foundation was re-used and enlarged, and the ashlar limestone was carefully removed from the existing home and re-used. Further, no trees were removed during construction of the home or pool.
